How was the project born?

Wendat family

I had the chance to grow up with my grandmother Éliane Gros-Louis. Through her stories that she frequently told me when she lived in the woods with her father, a great Huron chief from 1941-1944. He lived for several years on the great Lake Battiscan and was guided by the Triton to accompany several tourists hunting. This is how he was nicknamed by his people Hatirontha, the skillful hunter.

Way of life

Wendat

The villages included longhouses that were located near a river and farmland. The location changed every 10-12 years on average depending on the condition of the soil and firewood. These longhouses could accommodate 4 to 12 households. They were made of arched logs and then covered with cedar, elm and ash bark. In the long central corridor there were fires and, on the side, raised platforms for sleeping. The houses served as places for political meetings and ceremonies, but also as places for storage.

Our accommodation

Unusual, but including Wendat values to allow visitors to discover this fascinating culture, my accommodation, located approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from the bridges of Quebec, offers the possibility of staying in a longhouse or a teepee.

Longhouses and teepees

Custom-assembled with 100% water-repellent, flame-retardant and resistant cotton canvases with larch poles. The interior will be comfortable and suitable for a family in a Wendat decor. There you will find wood stoves which will add to the well-being and ambiance.
